Rules of the Road

When it comes to navigating South Lake Tahoe’s waters, certain rules must be adhered to.

  • Boats must maintain a wake-free speed within 600 feet of the shore.

Speed limits drop to 5 mph in specific zones like Emerald Bay.

  • To avoid underwater hazards marked by white buoys, vessels should navigate keeping these markers towards the shoreline.

Trip Planning

We encourage every boater planning an outing on Lake Tahoe to review weather conditions ahead of time. The lake can present sudden windy spells that may lead to dangerous scenarios if not properly prepared for.

Finally, any party intending to use one of Lake Tahoe’s launch points needs either proof of inspection for Aquatic Invasive Species or an unbroken seal indicating previous compliance checks – mandatory measures aimed at preserving the pristine condition and ecosystem integrity of this majestic lake. Inspection sites are located around the region where they’re readily accessible.

Regardless if you’re from the area or just visiting, an experienced navigator or new to boating, prepare yourself for an adventure aboard these vessels that promises to forge enduring memories.  Jet ski rentals just don’t offer the same experience.  Due to logistics, we also don’t offer multi day rentals.

FAQ

We also no longer pick up at the north shore / North Lake Tahoe, we do not offer personal watercraft / jet ski rentals, and we have found that stand up paddle boards are easier to use than water skis / water skiing.  We also do not allow personal grills on our boats to avoid making a huge greasy mess.

Do I need a boat license to rent a boat Lake Tahoe?

Yes, there is a phase in going on right now whereby the State of California requires people or a certain age, who are driving a boat on Lake Tahoe, to have a current Boaters Safety Card in their possession.  Don’t quote me on this, but I believe the current age requirement may be that anyone under the age of 60 is required to have their Boater’s Safety Card in their possession while operating a boat on Lake Tahoe.
