There is a variety of events at Lake Tahoe during the summer months that either have to do with boats or can be attended by boat. Information is provided below on the most popular of these events.
![]() The premier event of the boating season is, of course, the Fourth of July Fireworks Display. Sponsored now by most of the hotel/casinos and several other businesses, Star Spangled Fourth has become the largest and most spectacular Independence Day fireworks display west of the Mississippi. The fireworks are loaded onto two huge barges which are anchored just off the south shore of the lake at Stateline. A buoyed perimeter is established around the barges and boaters may anchor just outside the perimeter to watch the show. The fireworks begin at 9:30 PM and are accompanied by choreographed music simulcast over radio stations KRLT (93.9 FM) and KOWL (1490 AM). Hundreds of boats are out to watch the shells exploding overhead and this is the highlight of the boating season at Lake Tahoe. Don't miss it!
![]() Nautical history has been written on Lake Tahoe's clear blue waters since the first wooden boat plied its waves and steamships first criss-crossed its shores in the 1800s. Over the years, wooden craft evolved, becoming faster, more streamlined and comfortable, and featuring trends reflecting popular culture worldwide. Tahoe Yacht Club Foundation celebrates this unique wooden craft in its annual Lake Tahoe Concours d'Elegance, to be held this year from August 7 to 9, 2008. The much-anticipated event will take place on Tahoe's North Shore in the marina of Sierra Boat Company in Carnelian Bay, Calif. This year, the Lake Tahoe Concours d'Elegance features "Boats of the Twenties" as its marque class. The 1920s in America were a time of great change. Coming out of the horror of the First World War, the Twenties saw women voting for the first time, prohibition, and an incredible burst of affluence for the middle class. Automobiles and electric appliances made people's lives easier and gave them more leisure time. During this decade the nautical industry experienced huge growth as new levels of prosperity created unprecedented demand for leisure craft, prompting some companies to employ in-line production of standardized boats to maximize profit. During the Lake Tahoe Concours d'Elegance, splendid examples of these boats will be on display for two and a half days, starting on Thursday, August 7 with the VIP Preview Day. VIP ticket holders will be treated to fine hors d'oeuvres, libations, and a leisurely stroll on the docks for an up-close look at the boats. In addition, participants will be able to ride on some of Tahoe's most spectacular wooden boats throughout the afternoon. The VIP Preview Day is open to the public, with tickets priced at $100 per person The show will continue on Friday and Saturday, August 8 and 9, with a ticket price of just $25 for a single day or $30 for both days if purchased in advance ($5 more at the gate). Boat owners will be on hand to share information and history of their exhibits, and food and beverage will be available for purchase. Awards will be presented on Friday August 8, which means that winners will be displaying their trophies and sharing their successes with Saturday's spectators. The Lake Tahoe Concours d'Elegance has become one of the most prestigious wooden boat shows in the country. Due to its exacting criteria, entries are considered to be some of the finest wooden boats and are representative of the highest quality restorations and preservations in the world. Advance tickets may be purchased online by clicking here or by contacting Tahoe Yacht Club Foundation at (530) 581-4700.
