LAKE IMAGES
All who have visited Lake Tahoe will agree that it is one of the most beautiful places in the United States, if not the world. Unfortunately they will also tell you that most photographs do not do it justice. There can be no substitute for actually seeing it yourself, but on this site we offer a selection of video, photographic and live images which we hope will give the viewer some idea of Tahoe's beauty as well as it's fascinating locales and watercraft.
A new addition this year, thanks to YouTube and its contributors, are some wonderful videos taken on and over the lake. Don't miss the five-part series taken from a hot air balloon or the collection of classic wooden boats underway.
In 1998 the U.S. Geological Survey and the Ocean Mapping Group, University of New Brunswick, conducted an extensive survey of the lake bottom using the latest in high-resolution multibeam sonar mapping systems. The result was a stunning series of computer generated bathymetric images.
Also presented here are images taken by several "live" lake cams pointed toward the lake from different locations around the Tahoe basin. The images are actually still shots which are refreshed periodically, from every few minutes to every hour.
For one of the coolest images of Lake Tahoe available, visit the website of Tahoe Maps. Their stunning cartographic art poster of the lake and surrounding area was created from the fusion of four sets of digital satellite, topographic and bathymetric data and can be purchased online.
