New Feature! Click here for movie of Lake Tahoe bathymetry.
The bathymetric images below were assembled from data gathered by the vessel MV Inland Surveyor from August 2-17, 1998, under a Cooperative Agreement between the US Geological Survey and the Ocean Mapping Group, University of New Brunswick.
The only previously existing bathymetry of Lake Tahoe had been collected in 1923. That data, however, was inadequate for the ongoing and anticipated level of scientific studies for Lake Tahoe, and the latest bathymetry was compiled to fulfill a commitment for more extensive research made during the Lake Tahoe Presidential Forum in 1997.
The very latest in high resolution multibeam sonar mapping systems was employed to create these stunning images. All are courtesy of
Gardner, et al. 1998. USGS Open File Report 98-509.
